About Diani Beach

Diani Beach is a stunning 17-kilometre stretch of powder-white coral sand backed by swaying palm trees and lapped by the warm turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, located on Kenya's south coast approximately 30 kilometres from Mombasa. Consistently voted Africa's leading beach destination, Diani's beauty is protected by a fringing coral reef that creates a calm, sheltered lagoon ideal for swimming, snorkelling, and a host of water sports. At low tide, the reef flats reveal tidal pools teeming with colourful marine life, while the deeper waters beyond the reef offer world-class diving sites including caves, drop-offs, and vibrant coral gardens.

The beach itself is flanked by a generous selection of accommodation ranging from luxury all-inclusive resorts to intimate boutique hotels and self-catering apartments, making it suitable for every budget and travel style. The vibrant village of Diani has excellent restaurants, beach bars, and craft markets, yet the stretch of coast maintains a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere far removed from the crowds of more commercialised tropical destinations. The Colobus Conservation centre protects the endangered Angolan colobus monkeys that live in the coastal forest canopy, and visitors can join guided forest walks to see them.

Diani is the perfect complement to a Kenyan safari, offering a chance to unwind on a world-class beach after days in the bush. It is also a base for excursions to Shimba Hills National Reserve, where you can track the rare sable antelope in coastal rainforest, and to Wasini Island for dolphin watching and snorkelling in the Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park, one of the finest marine reserves in East Africa. Whether you seek romance, family fun, or adrenaline-fuelled water sports, Diani delivers the quintessential tropical beach experience.
