About Ol Pejeta

Ol Pejeta Conservancy is a 360-square-kilometre private wildlife reserve on the Laikipia Plateau, set between the foothills of the Aberdares and the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya. As the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa, Ol Pejeta is at the forefront of Kenya's conservation efforts and is also the home of the last two remaining northern white rhinos on the planet, Najin and Fatu, who reside in a dedicated enclosure under 24-hour armed guard. The conservancy's innovative model combines wildlife conservation with community development and sustainable livestock grazing, creating a blueprint for conservation across Africa.

The open grasslands and scattered acacia woodland support an exceptional density and diversity of wildlife, with all of the Big Five present alongside cheetah, wild dog, Grevy's zebra, Jackson's hartebeest, and over 500 bird species. Game drives here are productive and uncrowded, with the spectacular backdrop of Mount Kenya adding drama to every encounter. The conservancy is also home to the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only place in Kenya where you can see chimpanzees, providing refuge for orphaned and rescued chimps from across Central Africa.

What sets Ol Pejeta apart from national parks is the flexibility of a private conservancy. Visitors can enjoy night game drives, guided bush walks, horseback and camel safaris, and even mountain biking through the bush. The conservancy also runs a cattle ranching operation that demonstrates how wildlife and livestock can coexist. Educational visits to the rhino monitoring and anti-poaching operations give visitors a unique insight into the challenges and triumphs of modern African conservation. With comfortable lodges and tented camps, Ol Pejeta combines first-class safari experiences with meaningful conservation impact.
